A New Era... Exploration, Evolution, Life Daily
My first Youtube video was a vlog in San Fransisco with my friend and OG blog photographer Lydia Hudgens. I remember the feeling of excitement and desire to carve out a space very different from the traditional fashion content that I was doing on Instagram and blog at the time. But, there was something I became deeply unaware of - fat black women were (and still are in some ways), only allowed to be one thing.
In the late 2010’s clothing hauls were all the rage. I understood why. The availability of plus size fashion was growing. People wanted to see not only what was available but video’s detailing fabrics, fit with links etc. I on the other hand wanted to make mini movies. It never felt like I was allowed. So of course, you give into the demands of the people and my channel became about clothes and body positivity etc.
The development of Deeply Madly Modern as my main brand and focused definitely reinvigorated my love for Youtube. A lot has happened in my life over the last 10 years that stunted the regularity of my posts. I lost my mom, I went through a gut wrenching breakup, I moved to Los Angeles, I lost my dad…life was LIFING. Home Decor Homies is a passion project but such a beautiful part of my brand and through it, my desire to get back to vlogging has re-blossomed. Can something blossom twice? I don’t know, but that’s what it feels like!
Because my main channel (yes, we now have a distinction!) went from And I Get Dressed to Deeply Madly Modern and the focus is Home Decor, I felt like there isn’t a place to just be me. It’s not “about” fashion per say, or beauty or home decor it’s about life. It’s everyday and me, and all of the many things that I love. It’s about sharing and being silly, exploration and growth.
Enter ITSMEKELLIEB VLOGS. I’m freaking pumped. Literally anything is possible. My first vlog is live and if you love long Facetimey vlogs, this channel is absolutely for you (and me). I hope you’ll give it a peek and if you like it, maybe even subscribe?
Love you, mean it!
